With their unique sound, wich combines jazz, opera, and world music, the musicians of the the Trio Barolo take you on a musical tour of the Mare Nostrum of their origins. If you close your eyes, you will feel immersed in a film by Fellini, with, as your only luggage, emotion, humility, musicality and generosity. What strikes you immediately is the unique character of the group's sound, due to the unusual orchestration and the contribution of the voice. This sound material provides Philippe Euvrard's compositions with an incredible space of freedom, which he entrusts to his two virtuoso and lyrical soloists, Rémy Poulakis and Daniel Zimmermann. Let yourself be carried away on a spellbinding musical journey, at the crossroads between Eastern Europe and the Mediterranean, following in the footsteps of all migrations: music as a passport for wandering peoples! The trio recorded their first album, “Le ballet des airs,” in 2013 in Umbria, thanks to an invitation from Roberto Lioli, Enrico Rava's sound engineer, who was captivated by the group's music. Then in 2017, they released “Casa Nostra,” the trio's second album, recorded this time at La Buissonne studio. At the same time, the Trio Barolo collaborates regularly with the Nouveaux Nez company, notably in the circus cabaret “Circo Barolo.” Following a residency at the Amphi Jazz de l'Opéra de Lyon in December 2016, the trio regularly invites musicians such as Kevin Seddiki, Anthony Gatta, and Carjez Gerretsen to join them in a quintet. In 2020, after 10 years of musical adventures and nearly 200 concerts, the Trio Barolo welcomed Daniel Zimmermann on trombone, replacing Francesco Castellani, who had been the group's trombonist since its creation. In 2025, the Trio Barolo released Traversées, its latest album.
Rémy POULAKIS
Accordion / Lyric Tenor

Born in Crete, he lives in St Etienne. He learned to play the accordion under his father's direction and pursued his musical education at the St Etienne conservatory, then at the National conservatory in Lyons, where he won a gold medal by a unanimous vote. He concurrently studied the piano, and his interest for singing led him to join the class of Ms. Nicolas and then the class of Evelyne Brunner. The outcome of all this was numerous concerts where he sang various parts, in "Dialogue des Carmélites", "Cosi Fan Tutte" and "Madame Butterfly" among others. He has recently sung and played the accordion opposite Mina Agossi in "Porgy and Bess" at Opera de Lyon and in Verdi's "Aïda" at La Fabrique of the Grenoble Opera. A generous musician, he is not bound to one genre but equally in love with jazz, Italian folk songs and opera. With Trio Barolo he has found an equilibrium between his beautiful voice and his virtuosity and the accordion.
